The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Remember the old Spaghetti Westerns with Clint Eastwood? The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was one of my favourites! On the comedic side, how about the Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello and I Love Lucy? My dad, my brother and I back in the day loved watching these shows among many others. Quality T.V. I’d say!

On early Saturday mornings, Mom would be preparing coffee, well more like espresso and buttered sliced toast bread with S cookies for breakfast, there wasn’t much bacon and eggs for us back then. We only ate bacon and eggs once in a blue moon when Dad would take us to his friend’s cottage! Dad would be howling with laughter while watching the Stooges and then Mom would come into the family room where our brand new Zenith T.V. used to be and call us in for our morning coffee. Mom put a bit of milk in mine or else I would be running around the house and jumping off the walls. Then we were outside all day and into the night. We would have dinner, Mom would wash us up, put our PJs on and if I could finish part of my accordion lesson before 9 PM we could watch more spectacular stuff on the Zenith! One night I remember watching The Planet of the Apes, the first one with Clint Eastwood, man that mesmerized me!

You know most of the time, it is all about content and value isn’t it? I passed by my old neighbourhood the other day and noticed that our old house had been torn down and this big and I mean BIG beautiful home was put in its place. The neighbourhood has changed like most of the neighbourhoods we grew up in, but while I was there I could still feel the vibe; I could still somehow see the old Zenith through the window of this other home. As long as you look, the content and value is still around friends… as is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

Brick & Mortar My Friends

Sincerely,
Phil Battista
